Equivalent Qualifications to GCSE English Language

The table below outlines some qualifications that are deemed equivalent to GCSE English Language A*-C (this is not an exhaustive list):

	Scottish Qualifications	Until 1985, a grade C or above on the ordinary grade of the Scottish certificate of education is equivalent In or after 1986, grade 3 or above on the standard grade of the Scottish certificate of education is equivalent Higher grade English is equivalent Grade C or above in the certificate of sixth-year studies in English is equivalent
	Qualifications from Republic of Ireland	Leaving Certificate including English language. N.B. We are aware that the grading system for the Leaving Certificate underwent an update in 2017, therefore the specific grading / level required to be deemed equivalent is under review.
	BTEC Qualification	Any first, national or higher national certificate or diploma in English
	RSA Stage III (advanced) in English	Yes
	Essential Skills Level 2 in Communication	Yes
	Key Skills Level 2 in Communication	Yes
	Key Skills Level 1 in Communication	No
