What Does A Constable Do

As you consider joining the PSNI as a constable you will have many questions, not least – what will you actually be doing in your new role?

There are clearly a wide range of jobs available within the Police Service of Northern Ireland. However, all constables start on a two-year probation, as a constable in a local policing team.

During this time you will be based in an operational station. Duties may vary slightly between urban and rural areas, but the aim is to focus resources on the needs of the community. The overall aim of a constable is to protect life and property, prevent and detect crime, and preserve the peace.
